Title: Proposed Ordinance to Require the Use of Bicycle Helmets Details: In an effort to protect and preserve the public health, the City desires to institute an ordinance that would require the use of an approved protective bicycle helmet for persons operating a bicycle, in-line skates, roller skates, scooter, unicycle or skateboard. The Police Department would be empowered to enforce the ordinance, which would be classified as a civil infraction with a penalty not to exceed $50.00. The ordinance also provides that a person may, in certain circumstances, have the penalty waived by the showing proof that a bicycle helmet was acquired before appearing in court.
